Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Sr. Accounting Analyst to perform general accounting processes for accurate close cycles and to support the development of internal and external financial statements and reports.

You will handle entries, analyses, reconciliations, and inter-company billings with emphasis on complex issues and regulatory reporting. The role requires strong knowledge of GAAP, Excel, and SAP, and may involve leading others or projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related business degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• CPA or CMA certification preferred and may be required for some positions.
• Minimum four years general financial accounting and reporting experience with emphasis on complex accounting issues and multi-company accounting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes and prepare internal and external financial statements and tax filings.
• Analyze financial data, reconcile accounts, prepare ledger entries, and manage inter-company billings and receivables/payables.
• Lead or participate in special projects such as system upgrades, rate case support, and process improvement initiatives.
• Provide timely guidance to clients and management on account codes, financial reports and performance metrics.
• Stay current with GAAP and regulatory changes and apply them to financial reporting.
