Job summary

San Antonio Zoo is seeking a Senior Accountant in San Antonio to maintain accurate financial records and support timely reporting. This role collaborates across Finance and Zoo teams to ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls, while guiding month-end and year-end close processes.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Accounting, at least five years of experience, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to analyze financial activity and prepare clear financial statements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Five+ years of progressive accounting experience (GL, reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
• Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookups, data analysis, and large data sets.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with ability to research discrepancies.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and other GL transactions.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support month-end and year-end close and prepare financial statements and schedules.
• Maintain fixed asset ledger, depreciation, disposals, and reconcilia- tion to GL.
• Review revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities for accuracy and proper classification.
• Assist external audits, tax filings, and regulatory/compliance requirements.
