Job summary

CLA is seeking a Senior to join our State and Local Government CAAS group in Massachusetts. You will serve as the primary accounting contact for government clients, manage multiple engagements, and coordinate complex reconciliations.

The role includes advisory support on budgeting, internal controls, and process improvements, plus assisting with audits and grant compliance. Travel to local client sites as needed and mentorship of associates are integral parts of the position, with opportunities

Qualifications

• 2 years of accounting/financial experience required.
• Bachelor's degree required; combination may be accepted.
• UMAS accounting experience highly preferred.
• CPA and/or CGA certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for state and local government clients.
• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously with timely deliverables.
• Coordinate and review complex account reconciliations including cash, receivables, and grant activity.
• Provide advisory support on budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and process improvement.
• Assist with annual audits by preparing workpapers and liaison with external auditors.
• Support grant compliance and federal/state reporting obligations.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes via technology and automation.
• Mentor and review associates’ work; promote professional development.
• Build strong client relationships through proactive communication.

CLA is currently seeking a Senior to join our State and Local Government CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) group in our Massachusetts offices.

Job Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for state and local government clients.
• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring timely and accurate client deliverables.
• Coordinate and review complex account reconciliations, including cash, receivables, grant activity, etc.
• Provide advisory support related to budgeting, forecasting, financial management, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives.
• Assist clients with annual audits by preparing workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation, and serving as a liaison with external auditors.
• Support grant compliance, federal and state reporting requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes through technology, automation, and best practices.
• Mentor, coach, and review the work of associates and analysts while promoting professional development.
• Build strong client relationships through proactive communication, responsiveness, and trusted business advisory services.

Job Requirements

• 2 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
• Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
• Experience in UMAS accounting is highly preferred
• Comfortable in fast paced environment and skilled in multitasking.
• Strong desire to deliver impeccable client service.
• Passionate about problem solving.
• Constant curiosity and desire to learn.
• Ability to travel to local client sites as needed.
• CPA and/or CGA certification preferred but not require

The wage range for this position in Massachusetts is: $79,000.00- $128,000.00
