Job summary

CLA is seeking a Senior-level CAAS professional to join our State and Local Government group in Massachusetts. You will serve as the primary accounting contact for government clients, manage multiple engagements, and oversee complex reconciliations and audits.

You will provide budgeting and internal control guidance, drive process improvements, mentor staff, and help expand client relationships with proactive communication. Travel to local sites is required as needed.

Qualifications

• 2 years of relevant accounting/financial experience required.
• Bachelor's degree required; combination of experience and training may be accepted.
• UMAS accounting experience highly preferred.
• CPA and/or CGA certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to travel to local client sites as needed.
• Fast-paced environment; ability to multitask and deliver impeccable service.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for state and local government clients.
• Manage multiple client engagements, ensuring timely and accurate deliverables.
• Coordinate and review complex account reconciliations, including cash and grant activity.
• Provide advisory support on budgeting, forecasting, financial management, internal controls, and process improvement.
• Assist clients with annual audits by preparing workpapers and liaising with external auditors.
• Support grant compliance and federal/state reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes through technology and best practices.
• Mentor and coach associates and analysts; promote professional development.
• Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and trusted advisory services.

CLA is currently seeking a Senior to join our State and Local Government CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) group in our Massachusetts offices.

Job Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for state and local government clients.
• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring timely and accurate client deliverables.
• Coordinate and review complex account reconciliations, including cash, receivables, grant activity, etc.
• Provide advisory support related to budgeting, forecasting, financial management, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives.
• Assist clients with annual audits by preparing workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation, and serving as a liaison with external auditors.
• Support grant compliance, federal and state reporting requirements, and other regulatory obligations.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes through technology, automation, and best practices.
• Mentor, coach, and review the work of associates and analysts while promoting professional development.
• Build strong client relationships through proactive communication, responsiveness, and trusted business advisory services.

Job Requirements:

• 2 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
• Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
• Experience in UMAS accounting is highly preferred
• Comfortable in fast paced environment and skilled in multitasking.
• Strong desire to deliver impeccable client service.
• Passionate about problem solving.
• Constant curiosity and desire to learn.
• Ability to travel to local client sites as needed.
• CPA and/or CGA certification preferred but not require

The wage range for this position in Massachusetts is: $79,000.00- $128,000.00
