Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Specialty Benefits team in the Minneapolis area seeks an accounting professional to support month-end close and analytics, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance. The role focuses on maintaining general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries, and producing compliant financial statements.

You will work remotely from anywhere in the U.S., with an in-office minimum of four days per week for those in Minneapolis or the Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in accounting or related field.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, MIS or equivalent.
• 1+ years of professional accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and financial statements.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Basic to intermediate SQL or similar languages.
• Ability to assess customer needs and provide solutions.
• Ability to solve moderately complex problems and perform analyses.

Responsibilities

• Research and investigate project data to confirm it aligns to accounting practices.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports.
• Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close.
• Prepare journal entries and reviews accounting classifications, in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles.
• Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits.
• Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretation.
• Analyze and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of financial position.
• Assist with or lead the month end quarterly end close process for assigned businesses or groups.
• Performs work in a self-directed manner and works with less structured, more complex issues.
• Serve as a resource to others.
