Job summary

Beacon Hill in Oakland is seeking a Senior Accountant to support general accounting operations, payroll accounting, AP activities, reconciliations, and month-end close. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance, and process improvements across multiple functional areas.

The position requires 3+ years in accounting with payroll and GL reconciliation experience; nonprofit/grant-funded experience is a plus. Advanced Excel skills are expected to drive analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience with payroll and GL reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of payroll taxes, compliance, and employee benefits accounting.
• Experience with AP, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Nonprofit and grant-funded accounting experience preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills; Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reconciliation analysis.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and reconcile journal entries for payroll, benefits, AP, and general ledger activity.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support month-end and year-end close, including accruals and variance analysis.
• Review payroll activity, allocations, and benefits reconciliations for compliance.
• Monitor payroll processing for accuracy and timeliness.
• Assist with AP processes, vendor reconciliations, and expense reporting.
• Reconcile employee benefit plans, retirement contributions, and related liabilities.
• Support audits with payroll, benefits, and GL documentation.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance leadership to improve processes and internal controls.
