Prime Matter Labs in Long Island City, NY, is seeking a Senior Accountant to own core close processes and manufacturing cost accounting in a fast-paced, multi-plant environment. This role reports to the Controller and influences margin drivers across operations and finance.

The position emphasizes inventory valuation, standard costing, and collaboration with operations, with opportunities to support audits and PE reporting in a growing, PE-backed contract manufacturer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP.
• Strong ERP experience and advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close and related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Analyze plant and contract profitability and support margin drivers.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and maintain internal controls.
• Reconcile and value inventory (raw materials, WIP, finished goods) and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with budget, forecasting, and standard cost setting process.
• Support external audits, tax, and PE reporting deliverables.
• Maintain standard cost rolls and analyze variances in materials and labor.
• Drive ERP optimization and cost accounting improvements.

Senior Accountant

About Us

PML is a PE-backed contract manufacturer serving leading beauty and personal care brands. From formulation and filling to packaging and fulfillment, we produce color cosmetics, skincare, and personal care products across 3 manufacturing facilities. We're growing, and we're looking for a hands‑on Senior Accountant to strengthen our finance function in a fast‑paced, multi‑plant manufacturing setting.

The Role

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant owns core areas of the monthly close and plays a central role in manufacturing cost accounting, inventory integrity, and financial reporting. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants exposure to the full cost cycle of a contract manufacturer — from raw materials and components through work‑in‑process to finished goods and customer profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Own assigned areas of the month‑end and year‑end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations, meeting a tight close calendar
• Analyze plant and customer/contract profitability and partner with operations on margin drivers
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong documentation and internal controls
• Reconcile and value inventory (raw materials, components, WIP, finished goods); investigate cycle‑count and physical‑inventory discrepancies and support reserve analysis
• Support the annual budget, forecasting, and standard cost setting process
• Assist with external audit, tax, and PE reporting deliverables, preparing schedules and responding to requests
• Assist with standard cost accounting: maintain BOMs and routings, execute standard cost rolls, and analyze purchase price, material usage, labor, and overhead variances
• Drive process improvements and help optimize use of the ERP system

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience,
• Solid understanding of US GAAP and
• Strong ERP experience and advanced Excel skills
• - Detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven, and comfortable working across finance and operations

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA (or actively pursuing)
• Experience with manufacturing cost accounting
• Understanding standard costing in an inventory‑intensive environment
• Experience in cosmetics, personal care, food, pharma, or another regulated manufacturing industry
• Experience with multi‑plant or multi‑entity operations
• Exposure to a private equity–backed or high‑growth environment

Physical Requirements

• Primarily office‑based work environment during regular business hours.
• Frequent use of a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds (files, binders, or office materials).
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed throughout the workday
