Hungerford, a West Michigan firm, seeks a Senior Accountant (Audit) to lead nonprofit engagements from planning through issuance. You will guide staff, apply GAAS/GAAP and Uniform Guidance, and ensure accurate financial reporting for nonprofit clients.

You will mentor junior staff, build strong client relationships, and identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and outcomes. This role supports growth across Grand Rapids, Holland, and surrounding communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
• 3+ years of public accounting audit experience; nonprofit experience preferred.
• CPA license or actively pursuing licensure.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and auditing standards, especially nonprofit reporting.
• Familiarity with IRS Form 990 preparation, or willingness to learn.
• Ability to multitask across engagements and deadlines.
• Clear, professional client-focused communication; team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead nonprofit audit engagements from planning to completion.
• Perform and review fieldwork per GAAS, GAAP, and Uniform Guidance where applicable.
• Prepare and review financial statements and disclosures.
• Research and apply accounting/auditing guidance in the nonprofit space.
• Mentor and develop staff with hands-on coaching.
• Build trusted client relationships and act as a responsive resource.

As a Senior Accountant on our Audit team, you’ll play a key role in serving nonprofit organizations that are making a difference in our communities. You’ll lead audit engagements, support the development of staff, and provide insights that help clients operate with confidence and clarity. How You Will Add Value

• Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of nonprofit audit engagements from start to finish
• Perform and review audit fieldwork in accordance with GAAS, GAAP, and Uniform Guidance (as applicable)
• Prepare and review financial statements and related disclosures

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 3+ years of public accounting audit experience (nonprofit experience preferred)
