Job summary

Syntax Talent Solutions is seeking a Staff Accountant ready to advance, or a Senior Accountant with multi-entity experience in entertainment or hospitality, to join our Illinois team. You will prepare journal entries, reconcile balances, and support month- and year-end closes across locations.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years of accounting, solid US GAAP knowledge, advanced Excel skills, and experience with NetSuite.

Qualifications

4+ years of progressive accounting experience in a corporate or multi-entity environment.
Strong month-end close experience, including journal entry preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
Solid understanding of US GAAP and internal control concepts.
Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
Experience using NetSuite or other cloud-based ERP systems.
Multi-location or multi-entity accounting experience.
Background in retail, hospitality, entertainment, restaurant, service, or PE-backed organisations.
Experience supporting process improvement initiatives and system enhancements.
Additional certifications in accounting or financial systems (e.g., NetSuite, Excel) are a plus.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review complex journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and alignment with GAAP.
Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations, promptly resolving discrepancies and issues.
Support month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, reclasses, and account analyses.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Analyze account activity, investigate variances, and provide clear explanations to management.
Support internal and external audit requests, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and controls.
Assist with process improvements and accounting projects to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Partner with departments across the organization to gather financial data, clarify transactions, and support operational initiatives.
