Job Description: The Georgia Department of Defense is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to manage complex reconciliations, financial reporting, and year-end closing. In this role, you will oversee essential fiscal operations and ensure compliance with both state and federal fund regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee federal/state AR, capital asset accounting, maintain all bank recons, and complete other comprehensive ledger reconciliations.
• Serve as a key contributor to State and Federal year-end close and develop internal and external financial reports.
• Review and analyze various general ledger account balances to ensure accuracy. Use reports, queries, and analytical tools to find, reconcile, and resolve complex discrepancies.
• Correctly apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) within the accounting system. Prepare standard statutory, regulatory, and financial reports while ensuring all internal and external policies are met.
• Assist with developing new financial policies to achieve agency goals and provide general accounting expertise across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five (5) or more years of current or recent State of Georgia accounting experience.
• Recent functional and working knowledge of GL and AR in Workday (GA@WORK).
• Current or recent professional experience working with federal funding.
• Advanced reconciliation, problem-solving, and general ledger skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, formulas, V-Lookups, etc.).
• Completion of the State’s Primary Governmental Accounting Series.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting for extended periods while utilizing a computer.
• Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, or lift boxes to archive and pack physical files.

• Must pass an extensive pre-employment Georgia criminal background check and a post-hire federal background investigation.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications
