Job summary

Manulife Financial in Boston is seeking a Senior Accountant to support LTC and Annuities operations within the US FSSC area. You will prepare financial close processes, including journal entries, detailed calculations and analyses.

The role requires 4+ years of accounting experience, strong communication, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Alteryx, and Power BI. Hybrid work arrangement is available and compensation aligns with market ranges.

Qualifications

• University Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
• CPA designation an asset
• Typically, 4 or more years of experience
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Detail-oriented, well-organized, and excellent analytical skills
• Self-starter and team player with a high level of initiative, strong work ethic and the ability to gather, synthesize, organize and report information
• Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, Alteryx, and Power BI
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertain to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations)
• Demonstrates emerging to solid proficiency in own discipline; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrates emerging ability to draft managerial reporting narratives.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounting and control activities for IFRS17, OSFI and NAIC results and develop and implement related process improvements
• Ensure complete, accurate and timely accounting activities across multiple accounting bases including complex accounting transactions, complex accounting systems, review of various analyses, footnotes, and financial statements
• Responsible for producing contributions to annual reporting including audited financial statements and annual statement schedules, including streamlining submissions and underlying processes
• Develop a strong understanding of processes and products, creating and maintaining process documentation and training materials as necessary
• Champion knowledge-building and usage of multiple automated systems which support the monthly and quarterly accounting processes
• Support SOX/MAR for assigned processes and related documentation
• Manage income statement testing, including coordination of audit requests, and analyze opportunities for improvement
• Prepare and reconcile several balance sheet accounts in support of Account Ownership and QAP testing
