Job summary

The City of Seattle seeks a Senior Accountant to join Seattle Human Resources (SHR) and uphold GAAP standards across municipal finances. You will lead journal processing, reconciliations, and financial reporting while guiding staff and safeguarding internal controls.

This civil-service role offers a hybrid schedule with in-office three days a week, overtime eligibility, and a full pay range of $48.07–$55.96 per hour. Interviews are scheduled for late October and will be held virtually via Teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credits in accounting (no substitutions)
• Three years of professional experience in general or governmental accounting
• Associate Degree in Accounting with 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credits in accounting (no substitutions) and four years of experience
• Master’s Degree in Accounting with 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credits in accounting and two years of experience

Responsibilities

• Research, analyze, prepare and review journals for financial transactions
• Review the work of team members for compliance
• Prepare complex financial reports and schedules
• Perform reconciliations monthly/quarterly/yearly
• Identify and resolve issues with invoices, payments, refunds
• Develop and implement accounting controls and policies
• Perform month-end and year-end reconciliations
• Conduct technical accounting research
• Analyze expenditures, revenues, and variances
• Assist management in interpreting fiscal policies
• Work on special projects as assigned
