Job summary

Compass Group USA, North America headquarters in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Senior Accountant, Contracts, in a hybrid role to oversee contract reviews, ensure compliance, and maintain precise financial records.

The ideal candidate has a four-year degree in Accounting or Finance, 3+ years full general ledger or contractual accounting experience, and proficiency in Excel and SAP, with strong leadership and communication.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum three years full general ledger or contractual accounting experience.
• Ability to work under pressure of tight deadlines.
• Must be a quick learner and self-motivated, as well as resilient.
• Experience with contract interpretation is a plus.
• Proficient knowledge of Excel, SAP a plus.
• Experience with Hyperion/Essbase a plus.
• Relationship builder that is able to effectively communicate with all levels.

Responsibilities

• Review contracts to identify and interpret complex financial obligations.
• Ensure compliance to contract terms and commitments including commissions, volume allowances, profit splits etc.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, payments, and reconciliations for such contractual obligations.
• Ensure accounting conforms to IFRS and Group Policies.
• Ensure monthly profit and loss statements are accurate reflections of results.
• Prevent earnings management through appropriate journal entries.
• Partner with Corporate Accounting, Legal, Technical Accounting & Audit, STG, and Field Finance.
• Ensure balance sheet accounts reflect correct balances and are reconciled monthly.
• Analyze P&L and balance sheet for mis-statements/defalcations; use tools to maintain internal controls.
• Drive and implement new processes and improvements; create checklists for compliance.
• Lead the department, mentor Field Accounting associates.

Responsibilities:

• Review contracts to identify and interpret complex financial obligations
• Ensure compliance to contract terms and commitments including, commissions, volume allowances, profit splits etc.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, payments, and reconciliations for such contractual obligations
• Ensure accounting conforms to the Group Accounting Policies and Procedures manual based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
• Ensure monthly profit and loss statements are an accurate reflection of the results of the period
• Prevent earnings management through appropriate use and validation of journal entries
• Partner with internal departments such as Corporate Accounting, Legal, Technical Accounting & Audit, STG, etc., as well as Field Finance and Operations management
• Ensure balance sheet accounts reflect the correct balance and are reviewed and reconciled monthly
• Analyze profit and loss statement and balance sheet for possible mis-statement/defalcation Use all available tools to maintain highest degree of internal control possible
• Drive, create, and implement new processes and strive to identify and implement process improvements for existing procedures
• Create and maintain checklists to ensure compliance with contractual terms
• Be a leader in the department, assist peers, and act as a mentor to new or existing Field Accounting associates
