Job summary

Municipal Credit Union is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Accounting team in New York, handling month-end close, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting duties. The role requires solid GAAP knowledge and experience in banking finance, with strong analytical and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities include reconciliations, asset depreciation, ACL/CECL support, budgeting, audits, and policy maintenance, all performed in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. MBA/CPA preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of accounting experience.
• 3+ years in accounting at bank or credit union of similar size preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and banking financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail; ability to analyze complex financial data and draw actionable insights.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently on accounting assignments.
• Strong collaboration skills and teamwork.
• Proficiency in financial software and Excel; experience with Prologue and Symitar is a plus.
• Detail-oriented with accuracy in high-volume environments and tight deadlines.
• Technologically proficient.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the month-end close process, monthly reporting and variance analysis, and quarterly Call Reports.
• Perform reconciliations of bank accounts and general ledger accounts per MCU policies.
• Review and reconcile suspense accounts and address aged items with business partners.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules; ASC 842 knowledge.
• Perform accounting functions including general ledger entries and reconciliations for investment portfolio.
• Support the monthly Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) process; knowledge of ASC 326 CECL.
• Participate in budget and forecast planning; analyze income and expense trends.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate accounting implications of new products and services.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Coordinate financial audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations; provide documentation.
• Prepare budget vs actual reports and analysis for strategic decisions.
• Assist month-end close and MCU Foundation audit support.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate risks.
• Document and update policies and procedures with management.
• Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses to support strategy.
• Deliver all deliverables within prescribed timelines.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
