Job summary

RGP is seeking a hands-on Accounting Consultant to support high-volume month-end and quarter-end closes in a fast-paced environment. You will own core accounting activities, maintain balance sheet integrity, and ensure accurate U.S. GAAP reporting with minimal supervision.

The role involves close collaboration with audit teams, ERP systems, and cross-functional partners, focusing on accuracy, timeliness, and process improvement during a 6+ month engagement in the San Francisco area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience, preferably in a public company or high-growth setting.
• Experience in biotechnology, life sciences, or tech environments is a plus.
• CPA certification or active CPA track is preferred.
• Strong month-end close, GL, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting experience.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (NetSuite/Oracle/SAP).
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items.
• Assist with external audit preparation and documentation gathering.
• Support accounting across prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, cash, payroll, AP, and GL.
• Perform variance analyses and explain significant account fluctuations.
• Maintain accurate records in line with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver required accounting deliverables.
• Support special projects and ad hoc accounting initiatives as needed.

We are seeking a hands-on experienced Accounting Consultant to provide critical accounting support during a high-volume reporting and close period. This individual will play a key role in executing month-end and quarter-end close activities, supporting audit requirements, maintaining balance sheet integrity, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional who can quickly integrate into the finance organization, take ownership of core accounting activities, and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision. Work Location: 3 days onsite San Francisco, CA 94080 Duration: 6+ monts Pay Rate Range: $70/hr-$80/hr

What you will work on

• Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, flux analysis, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Assist with external audit preparation, including gathering supporting documentation, responding to audit requests, and managing follow-up inquiries.
• Support operational accounting activities across prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, cash, payroll accounting, accounts payable, and general ledger functions.
• Perform variance and flux analyses, providing explanations for significant account fluctuations and unusual transactions.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to gather information, resolve issues, and support critical accounting deliverables.
• Support special projects and ad hoc accounting initiatives as needed.

What you will bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager capacity.
• Experience within a public company, biotechnology, life sciences, technology, or other high-growth environment.
• CPA certification or active CPA-track background preferred.
• Strong experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, financial reporting processes, and audit support.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with accounting and ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and follow-through.
