HTP Energy is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Onalaska, WI. This role focuses on maintaining general ledger accuracy, supporting month-end and year-end close, and strengthening accounting controls while partnering with accounting, trading, and operations teams.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with accounting experience, proficiency in MS Office, and strong analytical and communication skills to drive process improvements in a fast-paced energy-focused

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with two (2) or more years of tax or accounting experience
• Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel and Outlook required
• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statement reporting
• Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close procedures
• Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new software, platforms, and internal systems
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, data analysis, and organizational skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining accurate general ledger records
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
• Support month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting
• Review financial transactions for proper coding, documentation, approval, and recording
• Assist with the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local indirect tax returns including excise, sales, fuel taxes, and credits across multiple jurisdictions
• Prepare schedules and documentation for external auditors and tax return preparers
• Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting, trading, and operations teams to ensure data accuracy and timely issue resolution
• Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes, strengthen controls, and improve reporting
