Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking a Sr. Accountant in Chicago,Hybrid role, to lead accounting for capital expenditures, fixed assets, and capitalized software. You will drive GAAP compliance, asset lifecycle processes, and cross-functional collaboration with Technology, PMO, and Finance.

You will support audit activities, refine controls, and contribute to financial disclosures for board and external reporting. A strong background in accounting policy and process improvement is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• CPA preferred.
• Public accounting experience a plus.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience with PeopleSoft GL, Hyperion Financial Management, Clarity PPM, and Trintech Certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise financial accounting over capital expenditures, fixed assets, and capitalized software, ensuring GAAP and SOX compliance.
• Oversee fixed assets and software investments including capitalization, depreciation, and impairment considerations.
• Review IT investment spending and project funding changes to ensure proper capitalization vs. expensing.
• Coordinate with Tech, PMO, Procurement, and BU Finance for accurate project accounting.
• Prepare fixed asset and depreciation disclosures for board and SEC reporting.
• Support internal and external audits and SOX walkthroughs.
