Job description

Tasso is a fast-growing Seattle-based startup focused on delivering at-home diagnostic testing to those who need it most. We are growing our footprint with leading health systems, clinical research organizations, academic medical centers, and more who are looking to deliver clinical-grade, convenient diagnostic tests to their patients. Tasso was originally founded to find a better way to collect blood instead of a painful fingerstick or time-consuming venous draw. Since then, our products have been used in pharmaceutical clinical trials, by Olympians as part of a new virtual anti-doping program, and broadly by hospital systems across the US.

As a Senior Accountant at Tasso, you'll take ownership of key financial processes and play an important role in building a scalable accounting infrastructure to support our continued growth. This position goes beyond transactional work-it's an opportunity for someone to apply their expertise and judgement in a dynamic environment and help shape our accounting operations as we grow. As the in-house expert on AvaTax and Paylocity, you'll lead process improvements and ensure compliance with evolving regulations. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, apply technical expertise, and help ensure financial integrity across the organization. Your contributions will have a direct impact on decision-making, compliance, and the overall success of our mission to transform healthcare.

What You Will Do

Revenue, Invoicing and Collections :

  • Lead the end-to-end customer invoicing process in QuickBooks, ensuring alignment with contract terms, revenue recognition principles, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Operations to optimize billing workflows and proactively resolve discrepancies that impact revenue.
  • Exercise judgement on approving and managing credit terms.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for Order to Cash in a future ERP implementation.

Payroll & Benefits Accounting :

  • Own the full-cycle, multi-state payroll process using Paylocity, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
  • Record and reconcile payroll journal entries and benefits-related expenses.
  • Support year-end payroll processes, including W-2s, 1095-Cs, 1099s and related filings.
  • Assist with the preparation and documentation required for the company's annual 401(k) audit, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders.

Tax Compliance :

  • Manage multi-state sales and use tax filings through Avalara AvaTax and government portals, staying current with jurisdictional changes.
  • Prepare and file state-level Business & Occupation (B&O) taxes, ensuring compliance with jurisdiction-specific rules (e.g., Washington State).
  • Assist in preparing tax documentation for audits and external CPA review.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and finance teams to identify eligible R&D projects and costs.

General Accounting & Reporting :

  • Contribute to monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare reports for management, board meetings, and investor relations as needed.
  • Support audit readiness and documentation for regulatory or grant reporting requirements.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting workflows, leveraging systems and automation to scale with company growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a regulated industry such as life sciences or medical devices
  • 2+ years of experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Passion for being involved in improving processes and applying automation through cross-team collaboration and leveraging technology
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills are required for frequent interaction with financial and non-financial colleagues, as well as external customers
  • Attention to detail, strong planning and organization skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, payroll laws, and sales tax compliance
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team setting
  • Takes ownership of quality and deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUPs, and complex spreadsheet modeling
  • Strong proficiency business systems, such as QuickBooks, Paylocity, Expensify, Avalara, Salesforce or similar types of software
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality

What We Offer

  • 100% paid Medical, Dental & Vision for employees and generous subsidy for dependents
  • 11 Paid Holidays and generous Time Off policies
  • 401K + Employer Match
  • Paid parental leave policy
  • This position is based in Seattle on Lower Queen Anne, with the option for hybrid work after onboarding

We have a strong healthcare-driven mission, and your guidance and efforts will directly link to our success.
