Job summary

Security Benefit is seeking a Senior Accountant, Investment Accounting – Reporting & Audit, to join a collaborative, agile team in Overland Park, KS, with hybrid remote options. You will own consolidated audit PBCs, prepare roll-forwards for investments, and assist in GAAP disclosures for audited financial statements.

You will partner with the Accounting Operations team to align ledger activity with reported results, and drive improvements to reporting workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 4-6 years in investment accounting or financial reporting.
• CPA preferred or willing to obtain CPA designation.
• Knowledge of GAAP financial reporting and consolidation accounting.
• Experience with investment-related ERP systems (PeopleSoft preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with all levels of management.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite; advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and own consolidated audit PBCs, including Realized G/L, Income Earned, and Holdings schedules for EI and EWS.
• Prepare quarterly and annual investment, equity, and cash flow roll forward schedules for multiple entities.
• Assist in investment and fair value footnotes and disclosures for audited GAAP financial statements.
• Coordinate audit confirmations and respond to auditor inquiries across engagements.
• Perform deferred G/L analysis and intercompany tagging.
• Support consolidation reporting activities, including portfolio tree compares and NCI schedules.
• Identify and implement improvements to reporting and audit workflows.

About the Role:

As a Senior Accountant, Investment Accounting – Reporting & Audit, you’ll be an integral part of a collaborative, agile team. You’ll design, analyze, and implement innovative solutions that drive efficiency and exceed expectations.

The Senior Accountant, Reporting & Audit position reports to Josh Moreland, Senior Manager, and can be based out of Overland Park, Kansas, or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.

• Prepare and own EI and EWS consolidated audit PBCs, including Realized G/L, Income Earned, and Holdings schedules, and coordinate timely delivery to external auditors.
• Prepare quarterly and annual investment, equity, and cash flow roll forward schedules for multiple entities.
• Assist in the preparation of investment and fair value footnotes and disclosures for audited GAAP financial statements.
• Coordinate audit confirmations and respond to auditor inquiries across assigned engagements.
• Perform deferred G/L analysis and documentation and intercompany tagging.
• Support consolidation reporting activities, including portfolio tree compares, elimination set checks, and quarterly NCI schedules.
• Identify and implement improvements to reporting and audit workflows to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
• Partner with the Accounting Operations team to ensure alignment between ledger activity and reported results.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 4-6 years of investment accounting or financial reporting experience.
• CPA preferred or willingness to obtain CPA designation.
• Knowledge of GAAP financial reporting and consolidation accounting.
• Experience with investment-related ERP systems (PeopleSoft preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet critical deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions, and effectively communicate with all levels of management.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (advanced Excel required).
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing deliverables.
