Job summary

Genius AI is hiring a Senior Accountant to own monthly close, reconciliations, AP/AR, expense management, and audit support. You will report to the Controller and work in-person in NYC 3–4 days per week, with required attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

You will identify manual, repetitive tasks and eliminate them through AI, automation, or cleaner processes, partnering with Finance and other teams to ensure data reliability across the business.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of accounting experience with GAAP knowledge
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
• Experience improving workflows using AI or automation
• Comfortable with general ledger systems; NetSuite/ERP experience preferred
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills; automate spreadsheet workflows
• Builder's instinct to identify and fix inefficiencies

Responsibilities

• Execute monthly close with journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Own AP/AR end-to-end; manage invoices and payments
• Prepare and review reconciliations for bank, credit card, and key accounts
• Process employee expense reports per policy with proper coding
• Support annual audit with schedules and documentation
• Build AI-powered workflows to reduce manual work
• Collaborate with Finance, People Ops, and other teams to ensure reliable data

About the Role

Genius AI is growing fast and the financial infrastructure needs to keep pace. As a Senior Accountant, you'll own core accounting operations: monthly close, reconciliations, AP and AR, expense management, and audit support. The expectation here goes beyond executing the core accounting functions. You'll be expected to identify the manual, repeatable parts of the job and eliminate them — through AI, automation, or cleaner process design.

You will report to the Controller. You must be commutable to our NYC headquarters and will operate in an in-person environment. We default to being in-office 3–4 days per week with required attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What You'll Do

• Execute a timely and accurate monthly close — journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations across the general ledger — and actively look for ways to shorten the cycle over time
• Own AP and AR end-to-end: process vendor invoices, manage payment runs, monitor AR aging, and ensure collections and records stay clean
• Prepare and review reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and key balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
• Review and process employee expense reports in accordance with company policy, ensuring proper coding and documentation
• Support the annual financial audit by preparing schedules, organizing documentation, and working directly with external auditors
• Build AI powered workflows to eliminate repeatable and manual work in accounting operations
• Partner with Finance, People Ops, and other teams to ensure transactions are properly recorded and financial data stays reliable across the business

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of accounting experience, with a solid grasp of GAAP and foundational accounting principles; experience at high growth technology company is a plus
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is strongly preferred
• Proven experience improving accounting workflows using AI or automation — not just adopted tools, but identified repeatable work, eliminated it, and redirected your time towards problems that actually require judgment
• Comfortable in a general ledger system; experience with NetSuite or a comparable ERP is preferred
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills; experience replacing spreadsheet-based workflows with automated solutions
• Have a builder's instinct — you don't just flag inefficiencies, you propose and help implement the fix

The base salary for this role is between $115,000–$140,000+ equity + benefits. The compensation package offered is dependent upon many factors including skills, experience, location, and education. The range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Additionally, this role is currently eligible to participate in Genius AI's equity plan as well as a range of health & wellbeing, retirement savings, and other benefits within our total rewards offering.
