Our accounting team supports the full financial lifecycle of the family's holdings, requiring precision, discretion, and strong cross-entity coordination.

Position Summary

The Johnson Company, Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant with 6+ years of relevant experience to serve as a primary accountant to help manage day-to-day accounting and cash management across multiple entities, including a large foundation. Responsibilities include performing bank and account reconciliations, capital call calculations, and cash flow analysis, preparing wires with supporting documentation, tax workpapers and executing estate and financial plans for the family. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with internal accounting staff, external tax advisors, and legal counsel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary accountant for the family office overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping, reporting, and compliance needs for LLC’s Trusts and it’s large, affiliated foundation
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank, brokerage, and investment accounts across multiple entities
  • Record and reconcile daily transactions, including downloading daily banking activity, reconciling discrepancies, and posting transactions to the general ledger
  • Prepare wire transfer requests with appropriate supporting documentation (invoices, capital call notices, confirmed wire instructions) and route for signature per internal controls
  • Prepare wires for the charitable organization's grants and distributions, tracking cumulative giving against the annual minimum distribution requirement and flagging remaining amounts due
  • Calculate capital calls and member contributions/distributions across partnership and LLC structures, coordinating with fund administrators and internal records
  • Track and follow up on pending fundings, ensuring timely receipt and accurate recording
  • Analyze cash flow and liquidity across entities to determine funds available for upcoming investments and spending needs
  • Enter and record K-1s and other tax documents into the accounting system, ensuring accuracy for tax workpapers.
  • Prepare financials and tax workpapers for partnerships, trusts, and foundations
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation in shared entity folders (wire support, invoices, transaction backup)
  • Post transactions to the general ledger with sufficient detail and supporting documentation for internal and external review
  • Assist with ad hoc requests from the CFO, Controller, Manager, and external advisors
  • Identify and escalat
  • Support process improvement initiatives and standardization of accounting workflows across entities
  • Assist with foundation-specific compliance requirements, including grant tracking, minimum distribution requirements, and Form 990-PF preparation support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA a plus
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience; family office experience strongly preferred
  • Experience serving as primary/lead accountant for a family office strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of partnership accounting concepts (capital accounts, K-1 allocations, capital calls/distributions)
  • Familiarity with private foundation accounting and compliance requirements (grant accounting minimum distribution rules) a plus
  • Experience with accounting systems such as Archway preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formula-driven reconciliation and analysis workbooks
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines simultaneously
  • High level of discretion and professionalism handling confidential financial information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordination with internal staff and external advisors
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned entities/workstreams
