Job summary

Harmer is seeking a Senior Accountant in Houston to join a large manufacturing partner. The role offers high visibility with both finance and operations leadership and exposure to plant performance, cost drivers, and manufacturing costs.

You will manage month-end close components, ensure US GAAP compliance, and partner with operations to drive budgeting, forecasting, and cost-savings initiatives. CPA or progress toward CPA is preferred, with Big 4 experience valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • Manufacturing, plant accounting, standard cost, inventory, or cost accounting experience preferred.
  • Big 4 or public accounting experience valued.

Responsibilities

  • Own key components of the month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Review financial results for accuracy and ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal accounting policies.
  • Partner with operations to understand plant performance, cost drivers, and financial results.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, inventory, production activity, and operational variances.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost-savings initiatives.
  • Investigate and explain fluctuations versus budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Prepare financial reporting and communicate key results and trends to leadership.
  • Support capital projects, fixed assets, and capital spend analysis.
  • Partner cross-functionally with supply chain, procurement, operations, and corporate accounting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Support audit, compliance, and internal control requirements.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Approximately 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred
  • Big 4 or other public accounting experience is highly valued
  • Manufacturing, plant accounting, standard cost, inventory, or cost accounting experience is highly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand the “why” behind financial results
  • Proactive, polished, and comfortable working directly with both finance and operational leadership
