Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager in overseeing and managing various accounting functions of the Company including accounts payable, property accounting, capital accounting, and accounting activities related to the Company’s investments in joint ventures. The Senior Accountant will also assist in various accounting initiatives to streamline monthly processes and assist in offshoring low-risk accounting functions.

You will play a key role in assisting with and supporting the operations and financial responsibilities of the properties within the portfolio by providing various financial reports, accruals, reconciliations, and performing detailed property level analysis of financial data. You will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other accounting leadership teams to implement new processes for optimal month end close.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly journal entries to accurately record, accrue, and allocate expenses at a property level.
  • Reconcile G/L accounts related to prepaid assets, accruals, and expense accounts at a property level.
  • Review staff accountant JEs and reconciliations and provide training and feedback prior to manager’s review.
  • Assist the accounting manager in improving workbooks with an emphasis on automation.
  • Detail review property level expense data and accounts as part of the month end close process and provide meaningful commentary to the senior management team.
  • Work closely with A/P to review purchase orders for accurate G/L and departmental coding to ensure expenses are appropriately recorded.
  • Prepare regular reports on property level analysis and accounts payable activity such as aging reports, and other metrics for senior management.
  • Assist with review of A/P processes and procedures with the goal of developing synergies between the A/P and Property Accounting functions.
  • Work closely with the Capital Accounting function to revamp procedures and ensure accurate recording of construction and development costs.
  • Assist in re-evaluation of the accounting systems, processes, and procedures, to improve overall team efficiency in relation to A/P, Property Accounting, and Capital Accounting.
  • Assist in transition of various tasks to offshore team as well as transition of tasks interdepartmentally.
  • Support the internal and external audit process, providing documentation and information as requested by auditors.
  • Assist in ad hoc tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Prepare and analyze various financial reports and statements from third parties and joint venture parties
  • Monitor and maintain internal controls and accounting policies, ensuring adherence to SOX and other regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
  • At least 5-7 years of accounting experience
  • Proficient in using complex Excel formulas
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Education / Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required
