Job summary

A leading marketing technology firm in Chicago is seeking a Sr. Accountant to maintain the integrity of the general ledger and support accurate financial reporting. You will prepare journal entries and facilitate monthly year-end close activities. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred, and strong GAAP knowledge. Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger. Your primary focus will be on preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end close activities. You will have strong attention to details and a solid understanding of GAAP, as you'll be responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting and identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.

  • Prepare and post journal entries for routine and non-routine transactions.

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures.

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.

  • Ensure accurate classification and recording of revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities.

  • Analyze financial data and provide variance explanations to management.

  • Assist in preparing internal financial statements and supporting schedules.

  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Support internal and external audit processes, including providing schedules and explanations.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures

  • Collaborate with AP, AR, Payroll, and FinOps to ensure proper coding and completeness of transactions.

  • Review and maintain accruals, deferrals, and prepaid expenses.

  • Monitor compliance with GAAP and internal controls.

  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and process improvement initiatives.

  • Support ad hoc financial projects, reports, and analysis as requested by management.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • 5-7 years of relevant accounting experience

  • CPA designation preferred (or actively pursuing)

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and the ability to apply it confidently in day-to-day work

  • Excellent technical research skills and a solid foundation in accounting principles

  • Experience with Sage Intacct is a plus. We love when you already speak our systems' language

  • Advanced Excel skills are a must—you know your way around pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis. You’re also comfortable with the full MS Office suite and Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive)

  • Sharp analytical thinker with a knack for solving problems and spotting trends

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills—you’re collaborative, curious, and confident working across teams

The salary range for this role is $90,000 – $115,000, based on your overall knowledge, skills and abilities aligned to the role. This range is subject to change.
