Job description

CFS is partnering with a respected nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding affordable housing and promoting housing equity across Massachusetts, seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team in Downtown Boston, MA.

Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant
  • Oversee and approve month‑end and year‑end close processes, including:
    • Accounts payable invoice processing
    • General ledger journal entries
  • Perform bank reconciliations
  • Coordinate city and state tax filings
  • Maintain thorough documentation for accounting workflows
  • Support audit preparation and financial reporting in accordance with nonprofit and public‑sector standards
Required Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Prior exposure to nonprofit/public‑sector accounting within a mission‑driven environment
  • Proficiency in at least one major ERP
  • Experience with tax filings, audit processes, and month‑end close cycles
Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with affordable housing financing or public‑sector grants and compliance
  • Professional services firm exposure is a plus
