Job summary

Stand Together in Arlington, VA is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to lead our most complex accounting areas, including leases, equity investments, revenue recognition, and other intricate transactions under US GAAP.

Base salary ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 annually, with potential bonus. The role is open to applicants in the Washington DC area or Wichita, KS and requires strong analytical skills, proactive process improvements, and rigorous compliance.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of accounting experience, including reviewing others' work.
  • Strong Excel skills with pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Have a deep understanding of US GAAP and ASC guidance.
  • Interpret and apply new accounting standards confidently.
  • Draft technical accounting memos and maintain policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on accounting implications of new initiatives.
  • Explain complex processes clearly to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and monthly GAAP-compliant statements.
  • Suggest process improvements to increase team effectiveness.
  • Perform monthly closing and journal entries for review.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
  • Communicate GL activity and financial reporting implications to the Finance team.
  • Research and interpret data to answer accounting questions.
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures and changes as needed.

How You Will Contribute
  • Have a deep understanding of US GAAP and ASC guidance
  • Interpret and apply new accounting standards confidently
  • Draft technical accounting memos, maintain accounting policies, and ensure compliance with those policies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess accounting implications of new initiatives and contracts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining intricate processes clearly to non-accounting stakeholders
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy and monthly financial statements that comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Recommend process improvements and innovations that will increase the team's effectiveness
  • Perform monthly closing responsibilities, including preparing journal entries for review by accounting management
  • Work with accounting management and the external audit firm to ensure an efficient annual audit process
  • Gain an understanding of general ledger accounts and effectively communicate to members of the Accounting and Finance team the activity that has occurred and the resulting financial reporting implications
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes when necessary
What You Will Bring

For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $100,000- $120,000 per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation designed to align total compensation with an employee’s overall contribution to the organization.
