Job summary

The University of Arizona's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering seeks a Senior Academic Advisor to serve as Lead Advisor for undergraduate degree programs, including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Software Engineering.

As the lead undergraduate advisor, this position provides leadership for undergraduate advising operations by coordinating advising services, promoting best practices, and serving as the primary resource for advising

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship building skills with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to interpret and apply policies and degree requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead advisor for the department's undergraduate advising team, providing leadership and coordination for advising operations.
  • Advise students on development of comprehensive academic plans, course selection, and degree progression.
  • Monitor progress, interpret policies, and help students navigate academic challenges by referring to campus resources.
  • Evaluate transfer credits, review degree audits, and support degree completion and student retention.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to administer the undergraduate curriculum.
  • Prepare curriculum updates, new course proposals, and maintain degree requirements.

Position Highlights

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) seeks a Senior Academic Advisor to serve as the Lead Advisor for the department's undergraduate degree programs, including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Software Engineering.

As the lead undergraduate advisor, this position provides leadership for undergraduate advising operations by coordinating advising services, promoting best practices, and serving as the primary resource for advising policies, procedures, and academic requirements. In addition, this position provides guidance and support to the department's Academic Advisor I and serves as the lead resource for undergraduate advising within the department.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead advisor for the department's undergraduate advising team, providing leadership, guidance, and coordination for advising operations while delivering comprehensive academic advising to prospective and current undergraduate students.
  • Advises students on the development and implementation of comprehensive academic plans, guiding course selection, degree progression, major and minor exploration, and alignment of educational goals with career aspirations.
  • Monitor academic progress, interpret university and departmental policies, and help students navigate academic challenges by referring them to appropriate campus resources as needed.
  • Evaluate transfer credits, review degree audits to verify fulfillment of degree requirements, assess graduation eligibility, and support initiatives that promote student retention, academic success, and timely degree completion.
  • Work collaboratively with department faculty and staff, the College of Engineering Academic Affairs Office, and campus partners to support the administration of the undergraduate curriculum.
  • Prepare and submit curriculum updates, new course proposals, and course modifications; maintain degree requirements; ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the department's Graduate Advisors to support students participating in the Accelerated Master's Program (AMP), providing coordinated advising that facilitates a successful transition from undergraduate to graduate study and ensuring students understand and meet both undergraduate and graduate program requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of advising services by developing and refining advising processes, identifying opportunities to enhance the student experience, and supporting the department's commitment to academic excellence and student success.
  • Routinely provide input regarding student data such as enrollment and retention data.
