Responsibilities

• Maintains an active advising caseload while providing advanced academic advising to students with complex academic circumstances.
• Advises students individually and/or in group settings regarding degree requirements, academic policies, course selection, registration, graduation requirements, and academic planning.
• Interprets and applies institutional policies, procedures, and academic regulations to complex student situations.
• Identifies barriers to student success and coordinates interventions through collaboration with faculty and campus partners.
• Maintains accurate advising records and monitors student academic progress.
• Serves as a resource and subject matter expert for advising staff regarding advising practices, policies, procedures, and complex student issues.
• Assists with training and onboarding of new advisors and provides ongoing professional guidance and mentorship to advising team members.
• Assists Director with advising initiatives, operational improvements, and student success strategies.

Job Summary

The Senior Academic Advisor serves as anadvanced advising professional responsible for providing holisticacademic advising services, managing complex student cases, andleading initiatives that support student success, retention,persistence, and timely degree completion. This position maintainsan active advising caseload while serving as a subject matterexpert on university policies, academic regulations, and advisingbest practices. The Senior Academic Advisor provides support forthe Director of Advising, mentors and trains advising staff,supports assessment and continuous improvement efforts, andcollaborates across departments to resolve complex studentconcerns. The position contributes to strategic planning,operational effectiveness, and the development of innovativeadvising practices within the advising unit and UT San Antonioacademic advising community that enhance the student experience andsupport institutional goals.

Core Responsibilities

1. Maintains an active advising caseload while providing advancedacademic advising to students with complex academiccircumstances.
2. Advises students individually and/or in group settingsregarding degree requirements, academic policies, course selection,registration, graduation requirements, and academic planning.
3. Interprets and applies institutional policies, procedures, andacademic regulations to complex student situations.
4. Identifies barriers to student success and coordinatesinterventions through collaboration with faculty and campuspartners.
5. Maintains accurate advising records and monitors studentacademic progress.

9. Provides testing and assessment feedback on student informationsystems as needed.
10. Provides functional leadership for advising projects,committees, and workgroups as assigned.
11. Participates in professional development opportunities andremains current on advising best practices, university policies,and student success strategies.
12. Serves on committees relevant to academic advising and studentsuccess.
13. Represents UT San Antonio Academic Advising in events that mayoccur outside of normal work hours.
14. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• Five (5) years of direct academic advising experience at aninstitution of higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Higher Education Adminstration, StudentAffairs, or related field.
• Direct UT San Antonio Academic Advising experience.
• Experience mentoring, training, onboarding, or providingfunctional leadership to advising staff.
• Experience managing complex student cases.
• Experience utilizing student information systems, degree audit systems, and student success/ academic advising technologies.
• Experience with proactive student caseload management.

Working Conditions

• Office environment. May be asked to work extended hours withina varying schedule, which may include weekends and evenings.Occasional travel to professional meetings and conferences.

Physical Demands

• Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary,if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts upto 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
