The Audit Senior will serve as the in-charge professional on audit, review, and compilation engagements for a diverse client base including nonprofit organizations, government contractors, manufacturers, long-term care providers, construction contractors, and professional service firms.In addition to assurance services, this role may include preparing related tax returns and supporting clients with accounting and financial reporting matters. The position offers the opportunity to work directly with managers and partners while developing leadership skills and mentoring junior staff.Recognized with nine Top Workplace awards, Gross Mendelsohn is committed to professional excellence, collaboration, and long-term growth.**Key Responsibilities Audit & Assurance Engagement Leadership** • Serve as in-charge on audit, review, and compilation engagements • Plan and execute audit engagements for privately held companies and nonprofit organizations • Prepare and review audit workpapers, financial statements, and related documentation • Evaluate internal controls and identify opportunities to strengthen financial reporting processes • Ensure engagements are completed in accordance with professional standards and firm policies **Client Service & Industry Engagement** • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients during engagements • Communicate audit findings and recommendations to client management • Participate in planning discussions and provide insights into financial reporting matters • Work with clients across industries including nonprofits, government contractors, manufacturers, long-term care providers, construction contractors, and professional service firms **Engagement Management** • Manage multiple engagements including scheduling, staffing, and workflow coordination • Monitor engagement progress and ensure deadlines are met • Supervise and review work performed by audit staff and interns • Assist with preparation of related tax returns when applicable **Staff Development & Collaboration** • Train, mentor, and supervise junior staff members • Review staff work and provide guidance on technical matters • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment **Professional Development & Firm Engagement** • Stay current on changes in accounting and auditing standards • Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities • Support firm initiatives and demonstrate the firm’s mission, vision, and values## Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field • CPA license required • 4–6 years of audit and accounting experience in a public accounting firm • Experience serving as the in-charge of audit engagements • Experience with nonprofit organizations (including Single Audits), employee benefit plans, or government contractors preferred • Experience preparing tax returns including Form 990, corporate, partnership, and individual returns, is a plus**Required Skills and Competencies** Technical Expertise • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and auditing standards • Ability to analyze financial data and identify accounting issues • Experience with audit software and financial reporting systems **Technology Skills** • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Experience with CCH ProSystems Engagement preferred • Experience with CCH ProSystems FX or Access a plus **Client Service & Professional Skills** • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills • Strong client service mindset and relationship-building ability • Ability to translate technical accounting matters into practical guidance for clients **Leadership & Collaboration** • Ability to train, mentor, and supervise staff members • Independent self-starter able to work both independently and as part of a team • Strong organizational and time management skills• Join a respected independent firm committed to strategic growth • Work with a diverse portfolio of middle-market and nonprofit clients • Collaborative, team-oriented culture focused on mentorship and development • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package • Free parking at both Baltimore and Fairfax locations • Hybrid work flexibility **Work Environment** This role includes regular travel to client sites primarily within the Baltimore–Washington region.
