Job summary

Formlabs in Boston is seeking a Senior 3D Printing R&D Engineer to push additive manufacturing forward. You will create new printing techniques, lead projects, and solve open-ended challenges across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.

Design and run experiments, analyze results, and drive improvements to hardware and software. A strong portfolio and coding experience (Python/Matlab) are valued as you contribute to next-generation printers and materials at a fast-growing company.

Qualifications

• 2+ years post-graduate experience.
• Questions assumptions and are willing to back it up with data.
• Autonomously works to research, report results, and make recommendations for next steps.
• Able to design and build test fixtures for experiments.
• Experience with experiment design and data analysis.
• A website or portfolio showing current and past projects.
• Understand programming and scientific computing, ideally Python or Matlab.
• Familiar with mechanical design, mechatronics, and CAD modeling.
• B.S., M.S., or PhD in an engineering field is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Create new 3D printing techniques from printer architectures to validating changes in Galvo control.
• Opportunity to lead projects and investigate new technologies.
• Tackle complex, open-ended problems across engineering disciplines.
• Perform experiments and use results to inform software or hardware improvements.
• Evaluate current printer performance for areas of improvement.
• Collaborate with other teams to implement improvements to products.
