Job summary

Formlabs is offering a Hardware R&D Engineering Intern position for Summer 2027 in Somerville, MA. This full-time onsite role includes hands-on work across mechanical, systems, and software engineering to advance Formlabs’ printing processes.

You will design and validate new 3D printing techniques, work with multi-disciplinary teams, and contribute to experiments that drive product improvements. A portfolio of prior work is required and exceptional candidates will have Python or Matlab

Qualifications

• Portfolio of your previous engineering work/projects is required.
• Experience with experiment design and data analysis is valued.
• Familiarity with Python or Matlab is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and innovate new 3D printing techniques including printer architectures.
• Collaborate across teams to improve current products, e.g., redesigning support structures based on results.
• Evaluate printer performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Design and execute experiments and apply results to software or hardware improvements.
• Tackle cross-disciplinary, open-ended engineering problems.
