Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is recruiting for a Physical Disabilities SEN Teaching Assistant at a specialist school in Merton SM4. The role supports pupils aged 3-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties, PMLD and health needs. A compassionate, patient approach and ability to follow care plans are essential.

The post offers full-time, term-time hours with an ASAP start. Experience in SEN or care settings is valued. DBS clearance for both children and adults is required.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, physical disabilities or complex needs.
• Patient, compassionate and proactive approach.
• Confidence supporting personal care and mobility needs.
• Understanding of individual learning and communication needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow care plans and safeguarding procedures.
• Experience in a specialist school, care setting or healthcare environment would be beneficial.
• Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Support pupils with physical disabilities and complex learning needs.
• Assist with mobility and positioning, following training and care plans.
• Support communication, sensory development and engagement in learning.
• Assist with personalised, play-based and sensory activities.
• Support personal care and feeding where required.
• Follow EHCPs, healthcare plans and moving and handling procedures.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, nurses and other professionals.
• Monitor pupil engagement, wellbeing and progress.
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
