Job summary

South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission is seeking a regulated Compliance Analyst to oversee self-insured employers, funds and subdivisions. You will analyze applications, report finances for Full Commission meetings and recommend program improvements. You will also audit funds, adjust surety requirements, and ensure timely tax payments.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and additional credentials such as a J.D. or graduate degree, with strong communication and travel willingness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
• Critical thinking skills with knowledge of SC Workers’ Compensation laws and regulations.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn the Workers’ Compensation technology system.
• Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion.
• Willing to travel.

Responsibilities

• Regulate and maintain self-insured employers, political subdivisions, and self-insured funds.
• Analyze self-insured insurance applications and report monthly on each with emphasis on financial feasibility at the Full Commission Business Meeting.
• Make recommendations for program improvement and regulation amendments.
• Conduct self-insured fund analysis.
• Approve by-laws, trust agreements, indemnity agreements, reserves, and investments for self-insured funds.
• Conduct self-insured in-house and field audits.
• Adjust each self-insurer’s surety requirements as needed.
• Assure the payment of claims in the event of the bankruptcy of a self-insurer or former self-insurer using the surety they provided to the Commission.
• Collects and monitors timely payment of all self-insured taxes.
• Monitor and approve any changes to a self-insurer's workers’ compensation program, including dividend payments, surety changes, excess retention, and rate changes.
