Job summary

Elmwood Park High School seeks a Special Education Self-Contained Program teacher for grades 9-12 for the 2026-2027 school year. Summary

This position is for a special education teacher in the self-contained ACE (Academic Continuing Education) program at Elmwood Park High school.

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, foster communication skills, develop an understanding and appreciation of literature of all types, motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information, comprehend and critically assess the reading materials, and to promote the development of skills in the field of English reading, grammar and syntax.

Job Responsibilities

Planning and preparation

• Case Coordination
  • Actively participate in eligibility, annual review and progress review IEP meetings for assigned students, as scheduled.
  • Participate in trans-disciplinary team meetings, parent conferences and faculty meetings, as scheduled
  • Communicate with parents frequently regarding student progress and educational needs
• Develop, revise and maintain a schedule
• Develop well written weekly instruction plans

Instruction

• Implement core curriculum in accordance with specific guidelines and the student's IEP
• Implement appropriate instructional strategies for each student consistent with the student's needs and the IEP
• Develop modifications to curriculum/instruction as required per student needs
• Collect and analyze student performance data accurately to develop and maintain effective instructional outcomes
• Implement current best practices in instruction for students with disabilities
• Implement constructive behavioral supports and modifications as indicated via scheduled data reviews
• Utilize conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills to address child, family, team or organizational issues
• Implement a classroom management system appropriate to student abilities
• Implement approved student safety procedures
• Organize and maintain materials to ensure efficient operation of the classroom
