Job description

Sown To Grow (STG) is a K12 education technology platform that empowers schools to improve student social, emotional, and academic health through an easy and engaging reflection and feedback process. In a short weekly routine, students check-in emotionally and reflect on the strategies that are working best for them (or new ones to try!). They start with a focus on emotional well-being, and expand to SEL competencies and academic goal-setting over time. Teachers, principals, and counselors access real-time reporting on students’ emotions and can proactively intervene to support student needs. The system also includes built-in SEL assessment, supporting SEL curriculum, and powerful artifacts of growth.

Sown To Grow is seeking a SEL Curriculum Writer to join our mission-driven and collaborative team. This role is ideal for an experienced educator or curriculum designer who is passionate about creating meaningful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate SEL content. The ideal candidate has a strong background in curriculum writing, a deep understanding of the CASEL framework, and the creativity to design engaging extension activities and lessons that resonate with diverse student populations..

We are a nimble team that is inspired to make a difference in the world while building a successful business. Before starting STG, our founding team spent several years working in both the private sector and schools/districts. We care deeply about building a product that positively impacts student outcomes and supports teachers in their mission critical work. The majority of STG’s school and district partners serve predominantly low-income communities, where supporting the emotional wellbeing and strength of students is meaningful and impactful.

Responsibilities:

  • Revise and refine existing SEL lesson content to ensure alignment with CASEL competencies, developmental appropriateness, and cultural responsiveness
  • Write new SEL lessons and extension activities that build student engagement and skill mastery across self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making
  • Collaborate with the product and curriculum teams to ensure seamless integration of lessons into the Sown To Grow platform
  • Create content that supports student goal-setting, reflection, and self-regulation, and aligns with Sown To Grow’s core learning routines
  • Analyze educator and student feedback to iterate and improve lesson quality and engagement
  • Ensure content is accessible and inclusive for a wide range of learners, including multilingual and neurodiverse students
  • Develop lesson implementation guides and supporting educator resources
  • Stay up to date with current SEL research and educational best practices to inform curriculum design
  • Maintain internal documentation

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in SEL curriculum writing, instructional design, or classroom teaching (preferably in K–12 settings)
  • Demonstrated expertise in SEL frameworks, especially CASEL’s five core competencies
  • Proven ability to design engaging, student-centered, and developmentally appropriate lessons
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness in curriculum development
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Familiarity with edtech platforms and user-centered curriculum delivery is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching credential or Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience supporting digital learning platforms or creating interactive online content
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency
