Job summary

Oakland University’s SEHS seeks a student-led social media coordinator to create and publish compelling content that showcases programs, events and alumni.

You will plan, shoot, edit and publish photos/videos, build a content calendar, and collaborate across departments to tell student-focused stories while following OU branding and accessibility guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field or equivalent combo of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, managing and publishing content for organizational social media accounts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of social media best practices, trends and engagement strategies.
  • Basic photography, videography and graphic design skills with DSLR/mirrorless camera and Adobe tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan and publish engaging social media content—photos, videos, graphics, Stories and Reels—that highlight SEHS students, programs, events and alumni.
  • Manage day-to-day social media content planning and maintain a content calendar aligned with SEHS communications strategy.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and departments across SEHS to develop stories and content opportunities.
  • Attend SEHS events to capture photos, video and real-time content.
  • Engage with followers by monitoring comments and messages promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor trends and analytics to identify opportunities to improve engagement and reach.
  • Ensure content adheres to Oakland University brand standards and accessibility best practices.
  • Serve on the SEHS Retention, Marketing and Enrollment Committee and assist with other communications projects as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media accounts for a university, college, school, nonprofit organization, business or other professional setting
  • Experience with social media analytics, scheduling and publishing tools
  • Advanced photography, videography and editing skills, including experience with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro or similar software
  • Experience conducting interviews and developing content featuring students, alumni, faculty and staff
  • Knowledge of social media accessibility best practices, including captions, alt text and accessible graphic design

Job Duties

  • Engage with followers by monitoring and responding to comments, questions and messages in a timely and professional manner
  • Monitor social media trends and performance analytics to identify opportunities to improve engagement and reach
  • Ensure social media content follows Oakland University brand standards and accessibility best practices
  • Serve as an active member of the SEHS Retention, Marketing and Enrollment Committee
  • Assist with other communications and marketing projects as needed
