Job summary

Lynker Corporation seeks SEFIS Survey Support Scientists (Levels I-III) to assist NOAA Fisheries’ SEFSC PEMD SEFIS program along the southeastern U.S. coast, conducting reef fish surveys, sample processing, data management, GIS mapping, and outreach.

Positions involve field, vessel, and lab work at the Beaufort, NC facility, with potential travel and overtime during at-sea surveys; Level III includes leadership of data analyses and staff oversight as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science or related field with zero to three years of experience for Level I.
• Master of Science degree in Marine Science or related field; or Bachelor’s with three years of experience for Level II.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Marine Science or related field with five years of experience for Level III.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a chief scientist, watch lead, video lead, or field scientist on reef fish surveys.
• Collect biological samples from fish species.
• Deploy and retrieve traps with video cameras and support data collection.
• Identify marine fishes across life stages in the SE Atlantic region.
• Process otoliths and reproductive tissues; acquire morphometric data.
• Review survey video and collect data using video systems.
• Enter, edit, and manage survey data; conduct data analyses.
• Assist with GIS-based spatial distribution mapping and data reporting.
• Support vessel operations, equipment handling, and data/sample archiving.
• Participate in public outreach activities.
• Level III: lead data analyses, supervise staff, and oversee survey databases.
