Job summary

Battelle is seeking a Security Test & Evaluation Technician for an on-site role in Atlantic City, NJ, working with the Aviation Security Division to support DHS/TSA IT&E events at TSL. You will assist test planning, execution, data collection, and analysis for security screening equipment.

The position requires on-site presence five days a week, strong communication skills, and experience with CAD/3-D printing for test articles. Travel <10% and US citizenship with DoD/DHS suitability are expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a scientific field with 3+ years relevant experience, or completion of a technician program with 5+ years experience.
  • Willing to work onsite at the TSL facility five days a week.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with development, documentation, and build of test articles supporting testing of security screening equipment.
  • Demonstrated motivation and ability to learn independently.
  • Must be able to travel; travel expected to be <10%.
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance and DHS Suitability.

Job Summary

Battelle is currently seeking a Security Test & Evaluation Technician. This is an on-site position located in Atlantic City, NJ.

Battelle’s Aviation Security Division provides test and evaluation services to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The qualified candidate for this position will support Independent Test and Evaluation (IT&E) events of security technologies at the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL). Candidate will be responsible in supporting staff responsible for test planning, test execution, test article development and maintenance, daily reporting, data reduction and analysis, and test reporting for discrete test events of transportation security equipment for checkpoint, checked baggage, and cargo screening applications.

Responsibilities
  • Testing involves the use of live explosives, simulated explosives, and mock passengers.
  • Provide technical assistance in laboratory and scientific research, development, testing and related activities.
  • Perform tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures in process or completion.
  • Support testing by constructing and setting up equipment, configuring instruments, preparing test specimens or materials, and conducting data collection.
  • Support testing by documentation, design, development, and building of test articles, to include use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and/or 3-D printing to design novel parts.
  • Support the execution and analysis of test results and is expected to interface daily with clients and stakeholders on-site.
  • The ability to regularly lift items weighing up to 50lbs, and to stage heavy equipment and test articles.
Key Qualifications
  • Associate of Applied Science degree (or equivalent) in a scientific field from an accredited college or university and at least three (3) years of relevant experience, or completion of a program from an accredited technical school leading to a mechanic or technician certification and at least five (5) years of technical experience; or at least eight (8) years of relevant technical experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Be willing to work onsite at the TSL test facility five days a week.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Significant experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with the development, documentation, and build of test articles to support testing efforts associated with security screening equipment.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated and self-starters with a strong desire to learn.
  • The candidate must be able to travel. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.
  • Sole US Citizenship and ability obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance and DHS Suitability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) for the TSA.
  • Experience with Explosive Detection Systems (EDS), Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT), Explosive Trace Detection (ETD), Advanced Technology (AT) X-ray systems, Checkpoint Computed Tomography (CPCT) X-ray systems, and other TSA-deployed screening technologies.
  • Experience supporting the execution of test events to evaluate the performance of security screening technologies deployed by TSA for checkpoint and checked baggage screening.
  • Experience and associated training to support work with explosive materials.
Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly range for this role is $26.60 - $36.50, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
