Overview
Electronic Security Technician II is a mid-level field technician responsible for performing installation, service, and maintenance of electronic security systems including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and intercom systems. The Technician II works under moderate supervision and is expected to interpret basic system drawings, install and test devices, and assist in system commissioning while adhering to quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and label low-voltage cables for electronic security systems.
- Mount and wire field devices such as card readers, cameras, motion sensors, door
strikes, and control panels.
- Assist with system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning under the guidance of a senior technician or foreman.
- Read and interpret basic construction drawings, riser diagrams, and installation guides.
- Ensure installation quality and code compliance (NEC, NFPA, etc.).
- Document installation progress, daily activity, and redline drawings as required.
- Interface professionally with customers, contractors, and team members on-site.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials inventory on job sites.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and participate in safety briefing.
- Solid technical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Able to follow direction and report progress/issues promptly.
- Ability to configure IP for access control panels / also be able to focus and configure IP cameras.
- Ability to communicate to PM a plan both verbally and via email, progress, and any issues at the end of the day’s work.
- Wire multiple types of access control panels, IDS panels and CCTV equipment.
- Be able to wire and adjust settings on a power supply.
- Capable to be cost effective in materials and equipment.
- Ability to read and understand wiring schematics.
- Understand relay logic / how to wire 12/24 relay, CX33 and BR3.
- Ability to troubleshoot access control, IDS, and CCTV components efficiently.
- Understand Wiegand, 485 wiring and OSDP.
- Have a functioning understanding of starting and completing a job.
- Understanding of customer relations and management.
- Maintain positiveness both ethically and morally when faced with adversity.
- Be able to install / troubleshoot electrical locks, strikes.
- How to effectively communicate and document progression and status of a project / situation both verbally and via email.
- Maintain a good driving record / clean organized company truck.
- Maintain good criminal record.
- General understanding of building construction and progression.
- Be able to sign equipment in/out from warehouse.
- Be able to read and understand Scope of Work.
- Ability to markup drawings for as-built purposes and updates.
- Be able to delegate and train smaller tasks to lower-level techs.
- Turning in receipts on time, efficient in purchasing material when needed.
- Be able to identify types of cable and corresponding connectors.
Requirements
- Must be a D.C. resident.
- RS2 Certification.
