Description

Tewksbury Hospital a 370 bed Joint Commission accredited hospital under the Department of Public Health (DPH) is currently hiring for the position of a Temporary Sick Leave Backfill of a Security Team Specialist I on the day shift. The hospital provides comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with medical and/or mental illnesses.

Please Note : This position is available on the 1st shift, 40 hours per week, from 7am - 3pm. Regular days off are Monday and Tuesday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Patrols all buildings, grounds and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals and guards against trespass, theft, fire and damage to property.
  • Maintains order among visitors and staff; maintains motor vehicle traffic controls on hospital grounds including parking, speeding and other traffic conditions and takes necessary measures to prevent unauthorized use of hospital roads and parking facilities.
  • Performs security duties such as screening visitors, directing traffic, and enforcing parking controls
  • Provides personal protection to individuals as required including but not limited to, searching for missing goods and persons, conducting surveillance, and investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activities.
  • Assists with providing custodial supervision of medically ill and mental health clients, and escorts them to various appointments.
  • Facilitates in-service trainings as needed on fire and crime prevention, and basic safety standards and practices for hospital personnel/staff and outside agencies utilizing hospital buildings and/or grounds.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of hospital firefighting equipment, alarm systems and other safeguards; reports defects and request repairs in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements.
  • Monitors hospital switchboard, gauges and alarm indicator panels; takes necessary action in event of malfunction or alarm, including system resets.
  • Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents during tour of duty.
  • Preserves crime scenes and fire sites, performs searches and inspections, serves court summons to patients or staff, and performs job related duties for safety and security as necessary and as directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to deal tactfully with others and interact with individuals who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Talent for maintaining a calm manner in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Skilled in making decisions and acting quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
  • Capacity to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information through questioning individuals, conducting interviews and gathering information by examining records and documents.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects or persons.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior health care facility security experience.
  • CPR Certified, First Responder and NARCAN trained
  • Prior experience with law enforcement or security
  • Ability to solve problems and relate to hospital staff, constituents and other community members in a positive and professional manner.

Tewksbury Hospital offers a broad range of services including a physician on site at all times, around-the-clock nursing care, rehabilitation services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, psychology services, social services, nutritional services, and an on-site dialysis clinic.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
