Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a maintenance technician to plan and carry out repair programs for locking devices, doors, door closures, and other security equipment in a maximum security facility.

The role includes conducting routine maintenance, inventories, on-call supervision, reporting, and procuring parts, with a requirement to complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and trades experience related to the area of employment.
• Relevant experience may substitute the diploma on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience in institutional maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans and develops repair program for locking devices and security equipment.
• Provides general maintenance for a maximum security institution.
• Organizes control accountability for items assigned to the institution.
• Performs routine and emergency maintenance on security equipment doors and locks.
• Serves as on-call maintenance supervisor per roster.
• Conducts inventories of keys and related equipment.
• Prepares and submits reports on inspections and inventories.
• Procures materials and supplies to maintain equipment in good order.
• Maintains an effective preventive maintenance program.
