Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Security Systems Application Engineer to join our Federal Systems team supporting ESS projects in the Washington D.C. Metro area.

The primary project site is Fort Meade, with occasional work at other local sites. Location: Remote/Hybrid with travel to DMV project sites as needed. You will lead the full project lifecycle from pre-sales to closeout, perform hardware/software commissioning, configure security systems, and prepare design submittals and as-built

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency with commercial/industrial Electronic Security Systems (access controls, IDS, CCTV).
  • Experience in pre-sales engineering support including cost estimating and site surveys.
  • Strong knowledge of configuring/programming security systems; travel up to 25%.

Job description

We are seeking a Security Systems Application Engineer to join our federal team supporting our Electronic Security Systems (ESS) projects in the Washington D.C. Metro (DMV) area. The primary project site will be Fort Meade, but will help out at other project sites in the local area at times also.

Our Engineers on this team get the unique opportunity to support some of our top government and military sites. Our Engineers are engaged in the full lifecycle of a project from pre-sales to closeout. These duties may include cost estimating & sales support, performing pre-design site survey, designing system shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals, programming electronic security systems, executing system startup & commissioning, integrating systems, training the customer, and generating project closeout documents such as as-built drawings and manuals.

Location: Remote/Hybrid role with the ability to travel to project sites in the DMV area as needed. Must be based in the Washington D.C. Metro / Baltimore area (MD/DC/VA)

Pay Range: $80,000 - $130,000. Negotiable based on experience

As a Security System Engineer, you will:
  • Be engaged in the full lifecycle of a project from pre-sales to closeout
  • Perform hardware engineering, software engineering and network level commissioning for Federal Security Projects
  • Supports the pre-sales engineering process; cost estimating & sales support, performing pre-design site survey, designing control system shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals
  • Configures and programs a variety of commercial and industrial size electronic security systems (access controls, intrusion detection, CCTV cameras, etc)
  • Develops and tests software programs necessary to operate the system per project requirements and specifications
  • Support technicians by ensuring the quality, timeliness and efficiency of designs
  • Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation
  • Coordinates and creates of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation

  • Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software
  • Selects controllers, end devices, and other materials to meet project specification, and minimize the total cost of installation to ensure that the project cost comes in below estimate for assigned projects
  • Ensures maximum reuse of proven designs and programs
  • Keeps management, contractors or customer informed of job progress and issues
  • Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control solution
  • Participates in customer meetings with project team. Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience working with commercial and/or industrial Electronic Security Systems (access controls, intrusion detection systems, CCTV/camera systems, etc), preferably with programming, configurations, and integrations. 5+ years experience preferred
  • Proficiency and experience working with pre-sales engineering support (cost estimating, sales support, performing pre-design site surveys, designing control system, shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals, design packages and submittals, etc)
  • Strong proficiency and technical knowledge with configuration and programming of commercial or industrial Electronic Security Systems (access controls, IDS, etc)
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-related drafting tools
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (mostly all local travel)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances for projects being supported (background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit checks). Active Department of Defense Secret (or higher) clearance preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of Security Alarm building automation systems and other building subsystems. Proficiency with Genetech, Milestone, Lenel, and/or Softwarehouse C-cure 9000 strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Networking, or other relevant discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Certified System Engineer ICAM PACS (CSEIP)
  • CCNA or Network+ certifications
