Security Systems Design Engineer (ESS) - (Job Number: 1228) - EG

We are seeking a Security Systems Design Engineer to join our federal team at our (Virtual / Remote). Our Engineers support top government and military sites across the U.S. and overseas, engaging in the full project lifecycle from pre-sales to closeout. Responsibilities include cost estimating, site surveys, designing system shop drawings, programming, system startup, integration, customer training, and project documentation.

Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) modernizes military and federal facilities to be smarter, resilient, and secure. Location options include Huntsville, AL; Norfolk, VA; or Philadelphia, PA, with travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform hardware, software, and network commissioning for Federal Security Projects.
  • Design, estimate, and configure security systems, creating technical data packages, drawings, and layouts.
  • Coordinate drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
  • Assist in system loading, commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation.
  • Select controllers and materials to meet project specs and cost targets.
  • Ensure design reusability and project documentation accuracy.
  • Provide site-specific training and participate in customer meetings.
  • Adhere to safety standards and promote safety awareness.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years' experience with electronic security systems (access controls, CCTV, intrusion detection, etc.), including programming and integration.
  • Experience supporting pre-sales activities: cost estimating, site surveys, design, and submittals.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially with drafting tools.
  • Ability to communicate technical info to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% and obtain/maintain security clearance (preferably active DoD Secret or higher).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of security alarm systems, building automation, and systems like Genetech, Milestone, Lenel, C-Cure 9000.
  • Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects.
Education
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or related technical field, or an Associate's Degree.
