Job summary

The Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu is seeking a Security Officer to safeguard guests, staff, and property across all hotel areas. The role includes continuous patrols of public and back-of-house spaces, enforcing security policies, responding to emergencies, and supporting loss prevention and safety initiatives.

You will document incidents, coordinate with department heads, operate CCTV and access controls, and assist with first aid when needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in law enforcement and/or security.
  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience in a resort or similar environment.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required.
  • Valid Hawaii Security Guard Card.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends.

Job description

Job Summary

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of guests, employees, and property across all hotel areas. This includes continuous patrol of public and staff spaces, enforcement of security policies, adherence to health and safety regulations, and response to emergencies. The role plays a critical part in loss prevention and maintaining a safe and secure environment at all times.

Essential Functions
  • Patrol all public areas, guest floors, back-of-house areas, and the perimeter of the hotel, including grounds, parking garage, pool, beach, and property boundaries to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Enforce all security and safety policies and procedures.
  • Discreetly challenge and verify credentials of individuals who appear suspicious, in a manner consistent with the hotel's standards.
  • Control staff entrances and conduct random baggage and identification checks for employees and contractors.
  • Monitor compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations during routine patrols.
  • Inspect and ensure the security of storerooms, offices, maid closets, and concession areas.
  • Document and investigate all incidents, including theft, loss, or damage, and maintain accurate electronic logs and reports.
  • Liaise with department heads and Human Resources to address incidents and implement preventative measures.
  • Respond to and assist with emergencies, including medical incidents, fire hazards, disturbances, theft, accidents, and natural disasters.
  • Investigate fraud-related incidents (e.g., walkouts, credit card issues) and report findings to management.
  • Manage lost and found items, ensuring proper documentation and efforts to return items to rightful owners.
  • Serve as a key member of the emergency response team, including evacuation procedures and coordination with emergency services.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and AED assistance as needed and coordinate follow-up medical care.
  • Monitor and control issuance of hotel keys (metal and electronic).
  • Monitor and oversee the Fire Alarm Control Panel, ensuring prompt and appropriate dispatch of responders as needed.
  • Operate and monitor CCTV systems and other security equipment.
  • Assist with guest room safes and safety deposit boxes as needed.
  • Receive after-hours deliveries and ensure secure handling and delivery.
  • Conduct locker checks in coordination with Human Resources and union representatives when applicable.
  • Safeguard guest valuables upon request.
  • Immediately report incidents or unusual events to senior management.
  • Serve as the primary contact for emergency responders.
  • Operate parking systems, including gates and ticketing equipment.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the Security Operating Manual, emergency systems, and hotel standards.
  • Support and conduct training related to emergency procedures, fire drills, and new hire orientation.
Additional Duties
  • Provide guidance to employees and management on loss prevention and security practices.
  • Assist in handling sensitive guest or employee situations professionally and discreetly.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety & Security, Security Leadership, or Executive Team.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in law enforcement and/or security required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience in a medium to large resort or similar environment strongly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience operating and managing fire alarm control panels strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • HAZCOM/SDS training preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Security Guard Card issued by the State of Hawaii.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
