Job summary

The Taft Museum of Art in downtown Cincinnati is seeking a full-time Security Supervisor for the 2nd shift to lead daily security operations and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for guests, staff, volunteers, and collections.

The role requires a proactive, organized leader with strong communication and collaboration, able to coordinate emergencies, supervise staff, and maintain high standards of safety and service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or NCR required.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Museum/security environment experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with CCTV, access control systems, alarm monitoring preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Security Associates and develop their skills.
  • Conduct shift briefings and assign daily tasks.
  • Monitor performance and provide coaching.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling.

Enjoy this rare opportunity to join the staff of one of the finest small art museums in the United States.Position SummaryThe Taft Museum of Art seeks a Security Supervisor to lead daily security operations and support a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for guests, staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, collections, exhibitions, and facilities.Reporting to the Manager of Security, the Security Supervisor provides direct leadership, coaching, and accountability for Security Associates while ensuring compliance with museum policies, procedures, and security standards. This position serves as the operational leader for assigned shifts, coordinates emergency response activities, and promotes a culture built upon Service, Strategy, and Support.The Security Supervisor leads by example and ensures the Security team is recognized as a professional, knowledgeable, approachable, and solutions-focused partner that supports the museum's mission while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesLeadership and SupervisionSupervise, coach, mentor, and develop Security Associates.Conduct shift briefings and communicate daily assignments, priorities, and operational updates.Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management activities.Foster a positive, collaborative, and guest-focused work environment.Model professionalism, accountability, and teamwork in all interactions.Service, Strategy, and Support LeadershipPromote a service-oriented security culture that balances safety, security, and operational excellence.Encourage Security Associates to approach interactions with professionalism, collaboration, and a solutions-focused mindset.Serve as a trusted resource for museum staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and guests.Promote the philosophy of "How can we help?" while maintaining compliance with museum policies and security requirements.Collaborate with other departments to identify safe and practical solutions that support museum operations, programs, and events.Build positive working relationships throughout the museum through responsiveness, communication, and partnership.Ensure security staff are recognized for professionalism, helpfulness, reliability, and sound judgment.Ensure that safety, security, legal requirements, and museum policies remain paramount when evaluating requests or operational needs.Security OperationsOversee daily security operations and maintain appropriate staffing coverage.Supervise opening and closing procedures.Monitor CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and fire alarm systems.Conduct routine inspections of museum facilities and grounds.Ensure proper key, credential, and access-control procedures are followed.Support museum programs, special events, and after-hours activities.Maintain awareness of security trends, risks, and operational concerns.Emergency Response and Incident ManagementRespond to security, safety, medical, and facility emergencies.Coordinate emergency response activities until relieved by management or emergency responders.Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents, accidents, thefts, policy violations, and other security-related matters.Ensure timely and accurate completion of incident reports and documentation.Participate in emergency drills, evacuations, and preparedness initiatives.Serve as Manager-on-Duty (MOD) when assigned.Respond to Museum after hours for emergencies.Training and ComplianceTrain Security Associates on museum policies, procedures, customer service expectations, emergency response protocols, and security technologies.Support ongoing cross-training and professional development initiatives.Ensure compliance with museum, life-safety, and regulatory requirements.Assist with inspections, audits, and security assessments.Guest ExperienceDeliver and promote exceptional customer service throughout the museum.Address guest concerns professionally, diplomatically, and respectfully.Serve as a visible and approachable leader.Support staff and visitors while maintaining museum security standards.Reinforce museum etiquette and safety expectations in a positive and service-oriented manner.Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform Security Associate duties when operational needs require.Report for after-hours emergencies as assigned.Perform other related duties as assigned.Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma, GED, or National Career Readiness Certificate required;
