Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Security Supervisor for the night shift (11pm-7am) to lead the security team on campus. You will coordinate shift plans, assign tasks, and ensure safety and incident reporting across all LHMC facilities.

The role requires strong supervisory experience, communication skills, and ability to respond to emergencies, including coordination with nursing leadership and external agencies. On-call duties and weekend work are expected.

Qualifications

  • Education: high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Licensure/certification: listed in job posting including CPR/AED and safety trainings.
  • Experience: minimum four years in security, law enforcement, or customer service with supervisory exposure.

Security Supervisor - Night shift 11pm - 7am

Provides leadership and supervision on assigned shift. Responsible for coordinating shift plans, making operational decisions, communicating with Security personnel, and reporting all safety / security incidents. This position will have rotating days off and weekends, scheduling will be based on department needs.

Job Description: Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  1. Provides direct supervision of security personnel.
  2. Conducts detailed shift change meetings and shift briefings, assigning all on-duty security personnel specific tasks and responsibilities for their work hours.
  3. Responsible for modifying shift plans and assignments as needed based on available resources and identified priorities.
  4. Monitors, addresses and evaluates the job performance of all on-duty security personnel. Reports any and all performance concerns to the Manager, Security Operations to ensure accountability.
  5. When serving in an on-call capacity, must be available to respond to all calls, texts, and emails from on-duty personnel, and may be available to come into work to fill unexpected shift vacancies.
  6. Carries out all of the regular duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer and/or Charge Officer when necessary for maintaining successful shift operations.
  7. Conducts on-campus traffic safety details during construction and roadwork hazards.
  8. Responds and supervises responding security personnel during all emergency situations and requests for security assistance, including but not limited to medical emergency team (MET) activations, resuscitation activations, missing/wandering patient or visitor, suspected infant/child abduction, admissions via helicopter, fire and smoke incidents, elevator entrapments, thefts, chemical spills / unknown substances, radiation contamination, civil disturbances, weapons/hostage/armed intruder situations, agitated/disruptive/combative patients, workplace violence events, and any other potential crisis situations.
  9. Administers nasal Naloxone in the timeliest fashion to suspected opioid overdose victims when needed, while activating an emergency medical response.
  10. Controls the med flight helicopter landing zone.
  11. Protects against threats relating to gunshot and weapons-related trauma violence spill-over, including when victims of weapons’ violence and suspected perpetrators of weapons’ violence are present in the ED, SICU, MICU, OR, etc.
  12. Notifies and communicates with Nursing Leadership and/or the Administrator On Call (AOC) as needed, and takes responsibility for ensuring incident reports are submitted and notifications are made to Security Leaders for all variances.
  13. Safety Searches: Conducts emergency contraband searches of patient rooms and property, taking possession of any discovered weapons, needles, substances (like Fentanyl), and other items presenting an immediate risk to life safety.
  14. Provides comprehensive security services for the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) campus, including the main facility at 41 Mall Road, 31 Mall Road, 29 Mall Road, MRI, John G Trump Building, 67 South Bedford Street, the parking garage facility, and all parking lots. Ensures the Security Log is maintained and completed with accuracy; documenting all routine patrols and safety/security issues and findings for all facilities and the grounds. Acquires and maintains knowledge of all buildings including all inpatient and outpatient units, clinic areas, pharmacies, mechanical rooms, elevator machine rooms, stairwells, roof access areas, card access readers, panic alarm devices, fire panels, and fire extinguisher locations through regular patrols. Ensures all security personnel on duty are knowledgeable of the facility and provides additional training and education as needed.
  15. Maintains a professional presentation at all times while on duty (clean and pressed uniform, ID badge highly visible on outermost layer of clothing, positive attitude, approachable demeanor, etc.) and communicates professionally with the public, patients, visitors, colleagues, and coworkers, as well local Police, Fire and EMS and other external agencies. Makes necessary notifications to security leadership, LHMC superiors and administrators when necessary.
  16. Delivers timely notifications to the maintenance department and AOC, etc., when inclement weather procedures are in effect, and provides assistance as requested.
  17. Develops and maintains expertise in all security systems including Genetec, ID badge production, surveillance, panic alarms, access control, emergency call, radios, Safety Reporting System, Security Log, EPIC, Flash Parking, the parking identification database, Fireworks, GigaTrak, dispatch, etc. and trains / educates all security personnel on shift as competent end-users.
  18. Leads on policy enforcement efforts related to parking, identification, restricted areas, screening, mandatory personal protective equipment, smoke-free campus, etc., and ensures security personnel are proactively carrying out enforcement.
  19. Ensures all required routine patrols, unit rounding, door unlocks / lock ups, door checks and patient safety watches are completed as assigned. Assumes accountability for ensuring the lost and found voicemail box is checked three times per shift, and all necessary related investigations and email communications take place in a timely manner. Ensures all patient valuables and patient belongings protocols are followed per policy, and also takes responsibility for organizing and auditing the security safe and found items’ storage units.
  20. Provides preventative monthly equipment checks relating to security systems and fire equipment as assigned.
  21. Conducts any and all Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) inspections during periods of renovation and construction, and as assigned by the Manager, Security Operations and the Director of Safety using the GigaTrak system.
  22. Conducts targeted patrols of roof access points, stairways and other strategic areas as assigned using GigaTrak.
  23. Creates and maintains a fair and equitable work schedule of security coverage for the assigned shift, and communicates the work schedule to all security personnel with as much advanced notification as possible. Responsible for ensuring minimum staffing levels are maintained with consistency across all seven days of the work week, including weekends and holidays. Proactively reports all scheduling concerns and hardships to the Manager, Security Operations for assistance.
  24. Monitors all security personnel’s attendance and timeliness, and reports all absences and tardiness to the Manager, Security Operations for tracking and accountability.
  25. Ensures all timecards are kept accurately, with actual start, end and meal times recorded for all security personnel.
  26. Maintains full knowledge of fire alarm system and its operation, manual fire alarm boxes, fire extinguishing equipment, shut off valves, stand pipes, explosives, flammables, and pressurized gases. Communicates with maintenance, emergency management, safety and contractors regarding fire safety zones and evacuations routes / procedures. Communicates with local Fire Fighting personnel and serves in a leadership role during any fire alarm activations and/or smoke, fire and hazardous materials incident responses, and ensures incident reports are completed and submitted along with notifications to security leadership, the AOC, etc. Conducts fire drills and fire safety education as assigned, and in accordance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, and without deviation from the assigned drill date and time. Completes all applicable documentation and submits reports in a timely manner.
  27. Functions in a leadership role during all restraint incidents, ensuring appropriate levels of security intervention are followed and necessary orders are obtained for any use of restraint. Follows up to ensure incident reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner and all colleagues involved in the incident are named in the report along with their job titles and departments. Contacts the Nursing Supervisor, AOC, etc. to request incident debriefings as needed, and is able to refer any colleagues experiencing emotional or physical trauma following an incident to support resources including the Employee Assistance Program.
  28. Serves as dedicated safety detail for patients presenting homicidal ideations and actions. Escorts patients on active MGL Chapter 123 Section 12 status from Trump building to ED.
  29. Forensic Patient Management: Orients external law enforcement personnel on LHMC safety procedures and protocols. Responds and assists external law enforcement with de-escalation, restraint, etc. Assumes direct observation and custody of the forensic patient if external law enforcement is incapacitated.
  30. Ascertains that all expired patient protocols are met, communicating with funeral homes, pathology, medical examiners, and staff physicians as needed, and ensures that all necessary paperwork involved is completed properly. Takes responsibility for ensuring all decedents are transported to the morgue safely and properly, and all are released to funeral homes or medical examiners with proper approvals in place. Checks the morgue inventory every shift and follows protocol for reporting any decedents who have been present for more than 72 hours with no plan for disposition in place.
  31. Coordinates and conducts all new hire security personnel training in collaboration with the Security Training and Compliance Specialist. This includes and is not limited to internal and external patrols, review of all security emergency response procedures, Safety Report writing, Security Log entries, Lost and Found protocols, patient valuables and patient belongings procedures, morgue process expectations, dispatch / desk responsibilities, security systems knowledge, parking systems knowledge and ID badge production.
  32. Ensures all record keeping and logs are maintained, and incident reports are completed. Inspects Security vehicles, and assumes responsibility for all security property, radios, keys and record keeping of such by all security personnel.
  33. Completes annual performance appraisals for all assigned security personnel by all communicated deadlines. Ensures all assigned security personnel complete all required education and training modules and courses by all communicated deadlines, including LHMC’s annual mandatory education.

Sing on Bonus! The Security Officer, Charge Officer, and Security Supervisor role is now eligible for a $1,000 signing bonus. Important Details: Bonuses are paid out in 3 payments: $333 at 30 days of hire, $333 at 6 months of Hire, and $334 at 1-year of hire, this would be prorated for less than Full-Time. To be eligible, you must be a non-BILH employee or a previous eligible employee who returns to BILH after 1 year. Employee must be in good standing to receive the bonus at the time of payment. Per Diem roles are not eligible. All bonuses are subject to applicable taxes. If you leave Lahey Health & Medical Center before your first anniversary you will pay back the sign-on bonus to Lahey Health & Medical Center. This program is subject to change at any point.

Pay Range: $27.00 - $39.00

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration: Current driver’s license. CPI NCI Certification. AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Levels I, II, III Certification, BLS Provider Certification (CPR & AED), AHA Heart-Saver First Aid Certification, Stop the Bleed and Nasal Naloxone Certification, and successful completion of Safe Environment for Suicidal/Homicidal Patients and Restraints/Seclusion Safety training.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Knowledge of State and Federal laws, ability to communicate both oral and written. Computer literate with Microsoft Windows, Excel and PowerPoint experience. Experience: A minimum of four years in law enforcement, security, and/or customer service. A minimum of two years in a supervisory position preferred.
