Job description

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO), Assistant Director, Security Division.

The AOC is accepting applications for an experienced operational security professional to perform specialized duties as a security specialist working as a member of a team that plans and conducts all security related training, administration and inspections for the AOC under OCSO.

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. Additional information on the qualification requirements is outlined in the OPM Qualifications Standards Handbook of General Schedule Positions. Specialized experienceis experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

To qualify at the GS-12 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on aregular and recurring basis:

  • Applying a wide range of security and resilience policies, procedures, concepts, principles and practices to review,analyze and resolve difficult and complex security problems;
  • Conducting classes and briefings for individuals and groups on operational security topics;
  • Contributing to an organization's security education or training program; and
  • Performing inspections, developing inspection reports and following-up on status of corrective actions.

To qualifyat the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:

  • Mastery of a wide range of security and resilience policies, procedures, concepts, principles and practices to review, analyze and resolve difficult and complex security problems;
  • Conducting classes and briefings for individuals and groups on operational security topics;
  • Serving as lead for an organization's security education or training program; and
  • Performing inspections, developing inspection reports and following-up on status of corrective actions.

*A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university is highly preferable.*
