Role Overview:

The Security Specialist conducts internal, background and other types of investigations and attends to routine, security-related functions in support of the Hoosier Lottery.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at$43,888.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:
  • Assists Director of Security in providing a secure, safe workplace; protecting Lottery assets; and protecting the integrity of the Lottery games;
  • Conducts 2nd chance drawings in accordance to procedure;
  • Investigates and validates winning claims over $10,000, including personal interview of claimant;
  • Assists with mail runs and mail-in claims processing;
  • Safeguards and loads validation files for new instant ticket games;
  • Monitors stolen ticket hotline 24 hours a day, including weekends, on a rotating basis, receiving complaints and initiating investigations;
  • Monitors burst messages during business hours for security concerns needing immediate action;
  • Performs associate and vendor background checks;
  • Maintains the access control system by configuring and issuing access cards, and generating access reports;
  • Maintains the closed-circuit television system including review and retrieval of archived images when needed;
  • Perform pre-release testing of upcoming instant ticket games;
  • Assist in conducting bi-weekly audits of instant ticket returns;
  • Acts as a drawing witness for promotional drawings;
  • Conducts pack transfers, issues and adjustments, and status changes of instant tickets;
  • Serves as liaison with police agencies;
  • Writes detailed reports to make permanent record of occurrences significant to the Lottery;
  • Escorts visitors and vendors while in the secure portion of the headquarters building;
  • Maintains the ticket stock database for validation of online prizes;
  • Processes all retailer and customer complaints, assigning an investigator to investigate when appropriate;
  • Encrypts and decrypts KDS pack number information relating to new game launches;
  • Coordinates document destruction through the use of a shredding contractor;
  • Provides security orientation to newly hired employees;
  • Maintains current contact lists and develops checklists and procedures for routine security tasks;
  • Prepares and submits payment vouchers;
  • Performs other required tasks as assigned.
What You'll Need for Success:

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

Knowledge of and experience with various security techniques and concepts, specifically in the area of computers;

In addition to the above requirements, any person employed in this class must comply with the provisions of Indiana Code 4-30 et seq.;

Is at least 21 years of age;

Is a United States citizen;

Must possess a valid driver's license;

Is a high school graduate or its equivalent;

Has never been convicted of any felony, or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement;

Has not been dishonorably discharged from any of the U.S. Armed Forces;

Has a good moral character as determined by a background investigation.

An associate assigned to this position may be required to undergo random drug screening tests, either as part of the random testing of all Division of Security associates, or at the specific direction of the Security Director when there is reasonable suspicion that drug abuse may be occurring by the associate. A positive test result may be reason for immediate termination of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
