Job summary

Leidos invites applications for a Software Developer Intern in Maryland, starting Summer 2027. The role involves agile software development across a large program, with emphasis on code quality, test automation, and DevOps practices.

You will contribute to design, testing, and integration efforts while gaining exposure to state-of-the-art technologies. Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's in CS/Engineering and be capable of obtaining a TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, going into the Junior or Senior level.
• Experience with at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
• Excellent problem solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• US Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance before start date.
• Internship requires, but is not limited to, an in-person interview in Maryland at intern's own expense.
• Ability to maintain a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance after start date.

Responsibilities

• Completing software development tasks individually and/or as a member of an agile team.
• Using design software tools, provide support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, and other accepted design techniques.
• Using sound software engineering principles to ensure that developed code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, fault tolerant, and reusable.
• Providing software process management and control throughout the coding portion of the software development process and promoting code reuse and cross-program collaboration by creating common functions and shared actions for developers and testers.
• Participating in peer code reviews to improve the quality of code written by other team members.
• Creating new applications or updating existing applications based on user requirements.
• Communicating with team members about project status and issues that arise.
• Creating prototypes of new technologies and features for potential incorporation into future products.
• Debugging computer code to fix errors and improve performance.
• Testing software for bugs or other issues that may affect functionality or the user experience.
• Reviewing documentation about new technology releases or product updates to ensure understanding of how the new system works.
• Conducting research on new technologies and techniques to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Analyzing data to identify trends and formulate solutions.
