Job summary

Grand Casino Mille Lacs & Hinckley is seeking a Security Shift Supervisor to oversee the security department on assigned shifts, protect guests and staff, and maintain facility safety. You will supervise Security Officers, manage staffing and training, perform patrols, document incidents, and coordinate with leadership on events and emergencies.

A Gaming Regulatory Authority license is required; two years of security leadership experience and prior gaming exposure are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college or related training preferred.
  • Two years security, law enforcement, loss prevention, or risk management experience with leadership responsibilities.
  • Two years gaming experience preferred; one year investigation experience preferred.
  • Must secure a Gaming Regulatory Authority license.
  • Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Security Officers on the assigned shift.
  • Maintain staffing levels through interviewing, training, scheduling and evaluation.
  • Patrol the property and identify security or safety hazards; report findings.
  • Act as back-up to Security Officers when necessary.
  • Prepare and request incident reports involving guests or staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of facilities and events to advise guests and staff.
  • Guard transfers on monies and chips; oversee hopper and chip fills.
  • Interact with guests and associates professionally to maximize guest service.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in training to improve skills.
  • Understand Crisis Management Plan and infectious disease procedures.
  • Perform other departmental duties to support team success.

The Opportunity

As the Security Shift Supervisor for Grand Casinos, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective functioning of the Security Department on assigned shifts, overseeing the safety of Guests and staff, and maintaining the security of the facility.

What You Get To Do
  • Assist in the supervision of Security Officers on assigned shift.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels by interviewing, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, promoting and disciplining Associates, as needed.
  • Patrol the property on assigned shift, identifying potential security and/or safety hazards, and reporting the same to the appropriate individual, to ensure the safety and protection of Guests, Associates and the entire facility.
  • Act as a back-up to Security Officers on assigned shift and assumes their duties when necessary.
  • Prepare and request reports on incidents involving Guests, Associates and/or the facility, as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Grand Casino’s facilities, as well as special events on property, in order to advise Guests and fellow Associates of the same, whenever possible.
  • Guard all transfers on monies and chips on the casino floor, as well as the physical transportation of hopper fills, chip fills and credits.
  • Interact with Guests and Associates in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ensure a maximum level of Guest Service and satisfaction throughout the property is achieved and maintained.
  • Held accountable, to a high degree, for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
  • Regularly attends departmental meetings and participates in training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Understand Crisis Management Plan and infectious disease procedures.
  • Perform other departmental duties assigned to contribute to the overall success and efficiency of the team.

What Qualifies You
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; some college or related training highly preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in security, law enforcement, loss prevention, or risk management, including time overseeing others’ work or projects — assigning tasks, training staff, monitoring performance or outcomes to goals, and holding some responsibility for the team’s or department’s results; or
  • An equivalent combination of demonstrated leadership experience through employment, community involvement, tribal organizations, military service, volunteer activities, training responsibilities, or other comparable experiences.
  • Two (2) years Gaming experience preferred; One (1) year investigation experience preferred.
  • Must be able to secure a license from Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA).
  • Responsible for following all relevant Detailed Gaming Regulations (DGR’s).
  • Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process.
Must Have Skills
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate in one-on-one and small group situations, and to moderate-sized gatherings of Associates and/or executives.
  • Must be able to comprehend instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form.
  • Must be able to listen and willing to ask questions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, percentages and decimals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills; ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands.
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and handle tools, objects, or controls; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Exposed to various environmental conditions including moderate to loud noise levels and second-hand smoke.
